Bold, colour saturated original wall art to leave you speechless!

Unique canvas wall art... that's unforgettable!

Large format canvas art can bring a neutral palette to life... without overpowering the room.  Here we look at how to style dark wall art in a light room....

Let's be honest, are we over the 'plain aesthetic'? Well... not quite.

We still absolutely love a calm, neutral and cosy vibe.  It can sometimes though end up feeling a bit... well flat and a bit too plain.  Instead of going all out maximalist.. why not try a colour drenched, high contrast work of art?  No major commitment to changing everything and even better no disruption redecorating.

You can simply add a high contrast, large format piece of art to completely reinvent the room but keep the overall look and feel.

Darkness to illuminate the room

Yes, I know that sounds crazy.  Yet by adding a dark, immersive canvas you create an anchor in the room and the high contrast starts to work its magic.

We've all seen examples all over our socials of bold redecoration but if you're anything like us, we want calm and neutrals but with a focal piece of art.  When you introduce a touch of darkness complete with bold colour it makes the light around it glow  and feel more spacious.  It can actually ground the whole feel of the room.  It comes to life.

Creating a visual anchor

Using this technique can create a negative space which is full of purpose.  Its the perfect bland to maintain a bright, clean foundation and then the art gains gravitational centre.

Truly memorable spaces are built on contrast.  Our designs focus on the energy and movement of colour.  Creating a moment of pause.  To reflect on the meaning, the reflection and the atmosphere the art creates in the room.

Why dark art in a light room works

The Simultaneous Contrast Effect

Colour appears more saturated and luminous when placed next to their tonal opposite.

Visual Hierarchy & The Focal Point

Completely light interiors often lack a clear focal point.  The eye wanders but never settles on any on thing.  A dark based high contrast canvas solved this by immediately creating tension and a hierarchy the eye can rest on.

Perceived Depth and Scale

Dark tones placed on a light wall appears to open a window through it.  It creates the impression of depth beyond the room's actual dimensions.  This can completely transform your space.

Amplifying Warmth

The contrast between light, pale wall and deep, rich tones in the canvas creates a warmth.  An energy. Movement.

How to get it exactly right

Choose darkness with warmth

Art with blue/black hues and bright bold colours are a great way to add warmth

The rest of the room can... well... rest

The canvas is the statement. There is a temptation to echo the colours elsewhere with cushions or dark furniture.  I'd say no. Instead focus on luxuriously soft textures to complement the neutral platte.  The canvas is the statement.  Keep the rest of the room and fabrics soft, cost and tactile.

Size matters...

The whole point of our designs is they are made to take up space.  Go big. As big as you can really.  Even more so with open plan spaces.  The canvas needs to command the light around it.  The scale is never excessive.. it's complimentary.

Let there be light

Lighting makes or breaks a room.  Add directional spotlights to skim across the surface and you reveal another dimension to the room.  Its adds focus and atmosphere at the same time.  The canvas becomes part of the room. Part of the family.

The Frame Matters More Than You Think

All our designs come with a black wooden frame to give that high end feel.  It creates a clearly defined boundary containing the energy.

Featured in the image above is our piece 'Still with you'.  Full of meaning.  Reflecting to us that we are never really alone.  Connection reaches beyond what we understand and life is full of symbolism for how much we really are loved.
